Water-cooled STAMFORD Generators

The water-cooled STAMFORD generator is pre-eminently a Caldic Techniek product built in our own workshop. By keeping the generator design intact, STAMFORD generators maintain their strong features and performance. On top of that, the closed water-cooled system we add to the generator provides significant improvements such as less heat generation, space savings and greatly reduced noise levels. An additional benefit is that sealed airflow from the generator means that dirt, chemicals or oil residues are less likely to enter the system.

In 2012, Caldic Techniek developed an economical and environmentally friendly water-cooled generator, primarily used for transportation and gas and oil industries. This generator can be used in temperatures where an air-cooled generator loses capacity. The strongest feature of the water-cooled generator is that the risks of interruption and system failure are greatly reduced, as contaminants can no longer enter the system. The capabilities of this generator convinced Damen, an international shipbuilder, to deploy this water-cooled generator on their PSV3300 vessels.

In addition to the reduced risk of contamination, space saving is also an important rationale for choosing water-cooled systems. Traditional air-cooled generators take up a relatively large amount of space. Large air ducts must be installed to adequately cool the generator and the room in which it is located. The water-cooled generator offers an excellent solution here, as the large cooling ducts can be replaced by two water pipes 1,5 to 2 cm (DN50) in diameter. The resulting space savings make the water-cooled generator a popular choice for luxury yacht designs. Water-cooled systems allow more space on the yacht to be used for luxury purposes and also reduce noise pollution.
